How Referring Lawyers Are Paid

[00:00:07.09] We get a lot our cases, a lot of our best cases, by lawyer referral. [00:00:13.09] Now, that is just lawyers that want to refer business to us [00:00:19.08] because they know that we're good at what we do [00:00:22.08] and that we treat our clients well accordingly we treat their clients well. [00:00:27.05] In fact, we get referral from over 100 lawyers [00:00:32.18] that send us good cases. [00:00:35.10] Some lawyers are specialists in one area, but not personal injury law. [00:00:40.09] Their clients that know and trust them, call those lawyers first and ask them, [00:00:46.04] "Who would you recommend that we call that does personal injury law?" [00:00:49.21] And those lawyers recommend us. [00:00:51.20] Our standard referral fee is one-third of the recovery, [00:00:56.11] and that is standard nationwide, certainly in Texas. [00:01:01.09] We also have another provision that says if we settle the case [00:01:06.08] for over $100,000 in fee, [00:01:09.04] they receive 40% of the amount, over $100,000. [00:01:14.17] That is only fair to the lawyer that's referring the case to us, [00:01:18.18] because they could go ahead and try to do the injury case themselves. [00:01:24.09] The results wouldn't be as good as us. [00:01:26.12] Some of our cases are big, that are referred to us. [00:01:30.18] Some of the referral fees are really big. [00:01:34.07] A referring attorney to us can easily make half a million dollars [00:01:40.12] just in referral fees. [00:01:42.07] Now, as a referring attorney, he has to stay on the case. [00:01:47.10] We send him updates just like we send our clients. [00:01:51.14] The referring lawyer knows everything that's going on. [00:01:55.11] We pay generous referral fees, and we're not embarrassed about it. [00:02:00.08] They try us once, [00:02:02.02] and after they do that, they're with us from then on.
